How do I Request an Intro?

At the bottom of each job or company page you will see a teal banner like this.

Click on the button on the right to Request an Intro.

If you see Intro Requested, it means we have your introduction request and it is in progress.

How does it work?

When you click on that Request intro button, a quick form pops up:

We automatically fill in the top 4 fields, but it is up to you to decide what message you’d like the company to see when they receive your request!

Once you have sent the request, we send an email to the company including your profile information and they can either accept or reject the option to get a chance to chat with you!

  • If they accept, we send you both an email so that both you and the hiring manager can find a time to chat!
  • If they reject, we let you know via email that they have chosen not to accept the request. You’ll hear back within two weeks.

What happens once we have scheduled time to chat?

The conversations that happen can range from informational interviews to specific conversations about the availability of jobs in your skillset. Generally, if things feel like a good match and a role is available, the hiring manager will provide an overview of the hiring process, timeline, and set up next steps.

I'm excited. How can I make the best first impression?

We reviewed hundreds of accepted and rejected request messages and found the following keys to success:

The most successful Request Intro Message end up being somewhere between a cover letter and a quick run-in with the hiring manager in an elevator 😂

When writing your own intro, tips for success are:

  • Be clear. Why are you asking for an intro? Let them know if there’s a specific role or if you are generally interested in connecting with the company.
  • Be passionate. Companies love to see how your skills, drive, and passion connect to their mission. Why does their mission excite you?
  • Be succinct. Instead of saying a lot, say very little. This will both impress them and allow them to quickly evaluate whether they’d like to chat with you.

Alright! go forth and meet companies!
